The most common means of making a Damascus Steel knife today is called “pattern welding” where the highest form of this craft (due to exceptional quality and beauty) is developed in Japan. For this reason, our DamaSharp Damascus Steel Blades are entirely sourced and manufactured in Japan.

The Damascus Steel process starts when the two types of steel is “worked” or beaten and folded, then beaten again and folded again, causing a “layered” effect. The blade is then forged and fused into multiple alternating layers, heat treated and tempered.

The final product exhibits a strength, toughness, flexibility and sharpness with nearly perfect edge-holding ability that cannot compare with other single steel blades. It also creates a beautiful wavy pattern characteristic of a medieval Damascus blade.
